Alnwick Castle

After dropping off the car to gets its brakes fixed for the MOT, we had 3 hours to kill so we had a varied walk around the outskirts of Alnwick.

We took a path through a woodthen reached a bit where there was a large number of houses being built before
going under the A1 and over the river. We followed it along meadows where we got a
pretty view across to the castle. I thought it looked quite mysterious in my picture. (Cloudy and grey today). After crossing the road at Lion Bridge we turned right and took a path just outside Hulme Park walls till we got to the place the ruined abbey had been. We took a steep path uphill to the park gates but unfortunately the park was closed. A women there said it would open next month after the shooting parties. Instead of walking through the parkland we took another path through fields to the Rothbury road where we stopped for a sandwich. The last 1/3 of the walk skirted round the western edge of the town then took us along the edge of the golf course back. It was 7.75 miles but the car still wasn’t quite ready.

I had a hot bath on our return while Mr C had to clear the back path for Tom’s man coming to lay some slabs prior to the side path getting tarred. Now I’m about to prepare our haggis, neeps and tatties for Burns night. Mr C did not need to scour the moors for a haggis. We got a veggie one in the shop.

The saga at Westminster continues with the PM unable to comment because Sur Gray’s report isn’t complete. Neither is the Met’s police investigation into possible anti-Muslim racism towards one of their own MPs. What’s the bet he’s considering a war with Russia to deflect things. That’s what the Tories usually do.
