Diary of an Edinburgher

By LadyMarchmont

All calm at the duck pond. A bit boring.

Dinner last night was delicious. And some left over for tonight - yipee. I was having one of my couldn't sleep nights/mornings (nothing whatsoever to do with the amount of alcohol consumed) and so I got up at 7am and did the dishes. I have broken too many or had to redo them in the past when I attempt to do them the same night, now I just leave them.

Although that's not always infallible... I remember breaking a huge serving plate (JR's favourite) and many others, when I carefully washed and did my usual clever stacking. We had visitors and I was quietly clearing up the previous night's mess before everyone got up. Then there was an almighty CRASH. Then another. The visitors must have had a fright and wondered what on earth had happened, but they didn't mention it. Nothing broken this morning!

A no-sky day - uniform greyness. We went to the supermarket to stock up on Uncle A's list, delivered them to his flat in readiness for his arrival tomorrow pm, and I went to the duck pond to see what was happening there.

Nothing. No arguments. No squabbling. I like it when it's raucous and dangerous.

Mrs Swan is sitting on the nest in the island. A couple of Canada Geese still there (don't know if they go off anywhere, but there are just two left), lots of tufteds, who just dot in an out of everyone, minding their own business. There were lots of mallards, and lots of toddlers chucking white bread, most of which landed on the grass and stayed there, possibly for the pigeons if they can be bothered.

So it was a toss up between Mrs Mallard and a pigeon. Not highly exciting, but she is rather pretty.

It got rather cold, but tricky me checked when the infrequent bus came before I went in, and so I was ready for it to whisk me home. Coffee and chocolate digestives are beckoning, along with watching last week's 'The Village' to see if it's worth following.

A lazy day. Last day of the school holidays. I must say, I'm still getting that lovely tingly feeling of NOT going to school tomorrow - wonder how long it lasts?

Possibly the rest of my life...
