Goose Hollow

From the late 1880s until about 1920, Portland had a cable car line in Goose Hollow that ran from right to left up the ravine shown here, below the row of white condos. You can see the one remaining Victorian along this stretch.
We've taken a renewed interest in Goose Hollow lately. It began when a friend put an offer on a condo there. I once lived in a hotel for women, in Goose Hollow, called the Jeanne d'Arc, a big, old basalt building run by the Sisters of Mercy. See Extra. A few years later, Eric supervised maintenance crews for Portland State Housing shortly after he graduated from PSU. The school leased or owned a lot of apartment buildings in Goose Hollow, including the Joan. It no longer exists, but was right between Lincoln High School and KGW.
