Pen y Fan Horseshoe Walk

It has only taken R and I 10 years to finally realise a plan to walk the Pen y Fan Horseshoe in the Brecon Beacons.  It required over 5 hours in the car there and back, along with another 5 hours walking to complete, but it was worth every second.

We had seen the weather forecast suggesting clear conditions, but as ever mountains don't always comply with the wider forecasts and frustratingly the summits of Corn Du and Pen y Fan were covered in cloud.  In the image Pen Y Fan is hidden on the left of the frame.  It made no difference it was a truly special walk with a notable 3 mile ridge walk along the western side of the horseshoe after a brutal climb out of the car park..  A stiff breeze turned the cold conditions into arctic temperatures but it made no matter, we were prepared.

As we reached Bwlch Duwynt we started the climb to Corn Du and then the rollercoaster started to Pen y Fan and Cribyn before a steep descent to a path that traversed the eastern mountain side back to the car.  9 miles of walking were as big a challenge as we've taken on in recent past.  Tonight I am aching but still content from a special day.
