Spring at last
Finally: a warm, sunny spring day. It inspired me to let the moths out of my purse and spend my bonus for this year on a new macro lens. I went to Wakehurst Place to try it out.
Wakehurst is the country estate of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, which is leased from the National Trust, and is their most visited property. It is the home of Kew's Millenium Seed Bank, which currently conserves the seeds of 10% of the world's plant species. Kew's vital scientific research and international conservation program aims to preserve 25% of the world's plants species by 2020.
The gardens were still a bit bleak after the cold, miserable weather we have had, but there were signs that with a few warms days they will burst into life. These miniature iris were a welcome splash of colour in their rocky scree bed, and proved good specimens for some initial shots with the new lens.
