Derelict found object

I found this cross almost totally buried at the foot of a eucalypt tree where I sometimes stop to look for insects. I took it home and gave it a bit of a clean up. I was interested in the medallion and upon digging a little deeper (as it were) I found that it is the Medal of Saint Benedict. The inscription around the outside says:

EIVS IN OBITVNRO PRE SENTIA MVNIAMVR

which means: Let us be protected with His presence in our death.

The extra is a close up of the medal.

Images of newly struck medals are here:

They show a cross in his right hand and a book in his left, which is the Rule for Monasteries (for a bit of light reading). No such clarity in the one I found.

The cross is a curious object, with those little copper plates riveted on and others missing. M wants to clean it up properly, after which we'll put it with my found statue of Saint Anthony and baby Jesus, of a few blips ago.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske. Stay safe and well.
