Sally Mair - Loving life

Made of girders!

My blip today is a wooden decoration of the rail bridge given to us this Christmas, it looks good on the tree. It reminds me of the other famous Scottish product made of girders!
New Years Eve today, or as we say in Scotland, Hogmanay! Traditionally our big event, although to be honest it's not as big a celebrating in our family as Christmas.
I went for a walk with Ali and Josie this morning, the temperature is 15° ridiculously warm - the warmest Hogmanay ever - for Scotland in December.
Back home, I had a hankering for some fresh fish so we headed into East Lothian a little later than planned, to find some. It turned out to be a fruitless expedition however or local Morrisons had fresh fish, and when i told the fishmonger my story he told me that that is where their fish comes from daily. I still like to buy it from the harbour, but if I'm stuck I have an alternative now.
We had a very enjoyable dinner of fried haddock with oven baked chips, I can't believe the adventures we had with pans of boiling fat on the stove in the past.
We had a quiet evening, watching Scot Squad. A high point was Eddie Reader singing Auld Lang Syne with Chief Mickelson. The follow on programme - the title escapes me at the moment - was fun too. It has many of the Scot Squad cast and members of Still Game, with the addition of Gregory himself, John Gordon Sinclair!
We watched Edith Bowman with various guests including Texas - when did Sharlene Spitieri get so old?
At midnight we went out the front to toast the neighbours, none of them came out though so we raised a glass to them all anyway. In spite of the official Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations being cancelled there was a goodly show of fireworks at midnight, we couldnt actually see them but we could hear them.

Here's to 2022:
good health, happiness and prosperity to all my family and friends;
vaccination for all ;
an end to the fears of an out of control pandemic;
an end to masks;
a return to face to face interaction and activities ;
freedom of travel ;
sensible government ;
the ability to plan without fear of cancellation.

Cheers blippers! Thank you for all the meet-ups, comments and interactions of the last 7 years and here's to the next 7.

In the meantime, stay safe folks, keep testing, being vaccinated, wearing masks and looking out for each other.
