The convenience of bike shelters

The new bike stands opposite The Burrell Collection provided a ready made social distancing coffee stop for the Glasgow Ramblers.The rain held off and folk seemed to enjoy the hidden bits of Pollokshaws. I had been concerned that the murals in Shawcross Arcade would be a step too far, all the rat runs and worse, fortuitously it turns out  F is a murals expert which elevated the conversation to more than I could have hoped, I don’t think anyone noticed the discarded takeaways. Like me, walkers who know the Southside quite well had always gone straight past the John Memorial cairn and the homage to John McIndoe. I was delighted that they shared my niche  enthusiasm for single wall remains of the Steamie, and the rusty iron work cable ends that were once part of the pedestrian bridge providing a short cut from the station over the White Cart to Pollok House
And to round off a companionable day, supper with P and M, as Covid cases go through the roof. I’m informed that this the way successful viruses behave, exponential transmissibility as the host becomes less aware, and perhaps careless, of their infectivity, and the life cycle is around three years.
