Lake Lure Vacation: Day 2 …

… Staunton, VA to Lake Lure, NC.

We were up, dressed, breakfast eaten and on the road by 9:00 am! Let’s get this vacation started!!

Since Mabry Mill is sort of on the way to our vacation condo we made the detour to so there. It’s located along the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway so there is no direct (easy) way into and back out but it’s so worth the detour.  Along the way we passed the derelict home seen in my collage … large lower left photo.  I took a quick picture as we passed it and was surprised the photo came out okay.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of homes like this along our journey.

All three of the right hand side photos were taken   And this wasn’t the only snake we saw here!  This one and another were in the small creek that feeds into Mabry Mill pond.  Very cool.

After leaving Mabry Mill it was onto Lake Lure!  We arrived at the condo by 4:30 and got checked in.  We didn’t feel up to driving into the city of Lake Lure before supper so we ate at the Legends Restaurant that’s on site.  And that’s where we were when we saw the kitten in the upper left photo! We were eating on the patio and this kitten was on the roof!  One of the locals said that there are frequently stray kittens/cats around the property but no one does anything about it.  Kind of sad.

Anyways … after supper we drove into Lake Lure to get some groceries for the week.  And on the way back to our condo stopped down at the lake for the sunset.
