Madonna and Child

This may baffle most people. I meant to post this over Easter but didn't get round to it. I bought this painting some 12 years ago from the artist (Nikolai Mukhin), when I was living in Russia. It is his interpretation of the atypical Russian icon, painted in egg tempura and all the trimmings. The symbolism is Russian Orthodox so it will probably only make sense if you are versed in the meanings of the theological symbolism of the apple, the grape etc.
I think this is a truly great work of art and feel extremely privileged to have had the opportunity to obtain it, as Nikolai Mukhin is now big time in Russian Art.
