St. Peter’s, but not in Rome

Cloudy with periods of rain, high of 43 deg F. I slept in until 8:45 since I read until 1:35 am so I could finish my novel. It was another quiet day. We opened our remaining gifts, cleaned up the Rec Room, and did a load of laundry. Hubby had PT at 1:30 pm. My sister and BIL stopped by to get two of his gifts we’d forgotten. They brought me a couple after Christmas bargains. We went to my mother’s, taking her bananas and picking up stuffed ham for each family. We did a few chores for her while there. I decided to share a photo of St. Peter Claver Catholic Church that is in my mother’s town.
I found the interior picture and this info on line: “On December 1, 1918, the first St. Peter Claver Church was dedicated.  The ceremony was attended by ‘a large and enthusiastic congregation.’ The first church was constructed of wood with a tin roof and could seat 300. The interior contained three stained glass windows above the main altar; the center one portrayed the crucifixion and was a gift of the Knights of St. Jerome.  On December 8, 1918, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, Mass was said for the first time at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church.” St. Peter’s originated for the black Catholics in the southern part of our county during the segregation era in our country. Today, it has a diverse and still enthusiastic congregation. Hubby and I were warmly welcomed at a typical 2+ hour Mass there a few year’s ago. The choir was phenomenal. They share a priest with a neighboring parish and St. Mary’s College. The pastor is always a dynamic man who can shepherd each group with compassion and flexibility. We headed home to deliver the ham and a sweet treat I picked up when we shopped for Momma. Then it was recliner time. Sure hope your day was as pleasant. Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. My daughter is still quite sick, a terrible headache was her worst symptom today. The younger kids are better, the oldest and my SIL still feel rough. There are so many COVID incidences in our county that there are no available testing appointments until Wednesday.
