and the rains came, well at least the drizzle moved towards downpour but a slow enough transformation to dissuade us while on our way out towards the tunnel and lighthouse... there are times that you just know that there's no point, that it's not going to change any time soon and that there's no heating to be had to dry out in front of ... one of those walks which would have been vastly improved if there had been the hope of a pub with a fire at the end of it ... and so back to the village where a fishing boat had just landed its catch, now for sale in one of the main alleys, the rain getting heavier ... but there's a plus side to it all ... on this island if you go to a particular window in one of the smaller alleys and show tickets for two ferries then you're given a 600 ml bottle of matsu kaolian liquor, the local schnapps, at 40 percent but then if you continue your perambulations, downhill 200m, two alleys, find the town hall and perform a similar ritual then you're given another bottle, this time a 200ml box set, 43%, with two glasses... a bribe of sorts to encourage tourism, another island it's 500 ntd in vouchers to spend on the island... kind of mind boggling... and then there was the news that today's ferry wouldn't be leaving keelung tonight, so no ferry back to taiwan tomorrow... the rabbit hole back down at cramond, a vain attempt to recreate and old photo...
