Ghosts

Walking into Chester this morning, Mrs C and I passed by this door and almost simultaneously said “Jacob Marley”!
It really did look like the sort of door knocker that would turn into Marley’s ghost as Scrooge approached. Despite my (undeserved!) reputation for penny pinching, we managed to pass by without any strange apparitions or clanking chains. I think I can sleep easy for the next few nights without having to worry about ghosts of past, present and future paying me a visit!
We’d not really intended to do any shopping this morning, just go for a walk, but I got sidetracked in HMV and ended up buying the latest remix of “Let it Be” by The Beatles, along with the glossy book that accompanies the new “Get Back” documentary (which I haven’t yet seen because I don’t have an Amazon subscription - I’m hoping for a DVD or download release sometime next year). This is now the 4th version of “Let it Be” that I own - I really am a sucker for a remix with bonus material!
Made sure that when we left the flat this afternoon, we shut it up on the basis we may not be back until spring. Last year, we didn’t foresee the long lockdown and consequently had a lot of food go off in the fridge and freezer - not to mention Christmas decorations that stayed up until April! So, fridge emptied, no decorations put up, water turned off and heating in frost protection mode. Plan for the worst and hope for the best!
A pretty dismal drive home, but it’s good to be back in Kendal. No peace for the wicked though as it was straight out to Panto rehearsal after tea. Somewhat down on numbers tonight - a mix of prior engagements and illness (don’t think anyones got covid, but there is a nasty cold going around at the moment) - but I wanted to see what Act 1 looks like after the major rewrite caused by one of our cast having to pull out for personal reasons. With only a couple of weeks to opening night, it was easier to do a rewrite than get a replacement. It all seemed to work ok, so now it’s just down to Boris as to whether or not we can perform!
