Diary of an Edinburgher

Epic lunch!

Our special lunch in town today - at The Ivy. We’ve tried to get a table there a few times before, but no luck. And so we were quite excited about today. And it was worth waiting for. Definitely the best meal we’ve had for quite a while! BUT… the usual complaint - THE most awful MUZAK EVER! At one point it sounded like the Chipmunks. And it was loud, which made everyone shout.

However, I won’t dwell on negatives, but I will dwell on the positives. The service was impeccable. And the food was very special. A huge menu, including a Festive menu. Really innovative stuff, too.

I had scallops for my entree (divine) and JR, at my suggestion, had Buffalo Mozarella, with crispy artichokes, pear and truffle honey. EPIC!

Our mains were wonderful too. I had a half roast chicken (off the bone) with Brussels sprouts, green beans, and a mushroom sauce . It was superb! A side order of chips was shared.

JR’s main course was the star of the day: Blackened Cod Fillet, baked in a banana leaf with a soy marinade, citrus-pickled fennel, grilled broccoli, chilli and yuzu mayonnaise.

Mind you, the shared dessert was also a show stopper - Chocolate bombe with vanilla ice cream honeycomb centre and a hot salted caramel sauce. (EXTRA)
