Alhambra House
Last week, The Minx forwarded me an email with the comment "I'm so upset". It was regarding our trip on the Sleeper. As well as there being no evening meal on the Monday, the email said the service would stop in Glasgow on the Tuesday morning, and that we'd have to take a regular train on to Fort William.
However, reading a little further down, the email said that we were entitled to a full refund - 'delay, repay' - due to the late arrival into Fort William. As far as I could see, though, we could still take the Sleeper up to Glasgow. The next day, the understandably dubious Minx rang up only to be told that this was indeed the case. A free trip!
And so it was that we disembarked in Glasgow just after seven, went into Costa and popped open our laptops for the duration of a significant infrastructure change at work* while enjoying some coffee and breakfast, and then went out to do some Christmas shopping.
While we were mooching around, we turned up Waterloo Street and passed Alhambra House, where I worked for six months in 2000. It was a great team and despite the brevity of the contract, I have some standout stories that I will save for another day. The nicest legacy, though, was my friend, Ian, whom I still meet up with for a late lunch and drinks three or four times a year.
*In the super safe hands of our colleague, Paul, this passed without incident, you will be pleased to hear.
