A bit of Berlin

This is a section of the Berlin Wall that was dismantled in November 1990 by the Berlin Field Squadron of the Royal Engineers. It was located in the area of Staaken checkpoint in the West of Berlin. It is now on display in the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham which we visited today. The Museum has a very comprehensive set of galleries tracing the history of the corps and predecessor operations going back to Roman times. It is housed in a grand building that dates from 1905 and was originally part of the Royal Engineers training establishment. It was very quiet today, though - we had the museum almost to ourselves in the afternoon.
