Catch phrases

To my blipper friends overseas this simple phrase may mean just what it says.

To many of my U.K. friends, however, it may give rise to an automatic response either in thought or
in speech. They may have become accustomed  to saying “ To see you, nice.”
Meaningless on its own. But it was the introductory catch phrase of well known British entertainer Bruce
Forsyth. Bruce died last year I think but performed to the end having been the compere for the BBC’s
Strictly Come Dancing.

It set me thinking that catch phrases might make a good Christmas family game.
Being an oldie I can goback to radio in the 1940s and recall in ITMA Mrs. Mops “Can I do yer now sir ?” Or Colonel
Chinstrap’s “I don’t mind if I do”. In later years from Dad’s Army there is Corporal Jones’s “Don’t Panic” which, like many of these
simple phrases has become incorporated in general conversation.

It was always a little puzzling to know what was so funny about them. But in part it was the expectation, the knowing that they
would appear in each half hour show.

I would enjoy hearing which were your favourites .  TTFN  ( Ta Ta for now.)
