Diary of an Edinburgher

Dougal!

We decided to take the bus down to the DHL drop off shop, which is on a very busy, congested road, so taking the car would have been too fraught. The package, though rather large, wasn’t heavy (it was a coat that I rejected). And so Archie came with us - lots of new smelly pavements with a high possibility of a bit of bread or something he can gobble up. He loves them just as much almost more than the trees and grass in the Meadows.

We popped in to BrewLab for a coffee after we got rid of the package. We couldn’t resist a pastry and a chocolate brownie too, and then walked home through the university campus. JR and Archie went through the wee park, the gate is usually locked, but today it was open. I didn’t, having a wee suspicion that perhaps the gate at the other end was locked as usual. My hunch proved correct, and they had to go all the way back to the only gate.

We’re watching ‘An Angel at My Table’ - we were surprised, nay, delighted to discover that it’s on Netflix at the moment - it’s been re-released for its 25th anniversary. We’ve been to the wee Spanish village where part of it was filmed. After travelling for several months in an old combi van (with a slow puncture and a few break-downs) the weather was rather COLD in November/December, so we thought we were in heaven - staying with friends, in a proper house, proper beds, proper toilet and… 25°! I can still remember the complete joy…

But I’d do it all again tomorrow…

Preferably with a more modern van…

JR is less keen.

And Archie is positively horrified at the prospect.

Look who I bumped into on the way home. Wee Dougal, though just as well Archie wasn’t with me by then - I don’t think he’s EVER going to like him…

EDIT: I’d forgotten just how extremely upsetting the Janet Frame film was.
