Partial Cover

Some ice had melted, some seemed thicker, it was milder today. I noticed a warm coloured rock at odds with the surrounding ice. I took that idea and went to investigate other similar opportunities.

On the face of it, ice would seem to be smooth and rocks rough, but here I see texture in the ice and none on rock. Other contrasts abound, warm vs cool, dark vs light, colour vs monochrome (can that be a contrast).

In the background, gulls near the far shore amassed in numbers I haven't seen before and their agitated shrieks filled the air. As I looked to depart, they took flight in one great swell, circling and morphing in huge waves.

And then they were gone.
