Leaf collection
I like a good free mulch and leaves work wonders!
In the summer, I collect green gold - aka grass clippings. This is golden gold.
Today, two barrowloads went over one of my asparagus beds - which I like to mulch with leaves in the winter, removing the mulch to put it in the compost heap as soon as the weather warms up.
I'll also use old coffee sacks to make leafmould - no need to pierce plastic bags as jute is a permeable fabric that will let a bit of air in.
It's one of my favourite jobs of the year. Leaves are so rich in nutrients and have so many uses in the garden. And you never have to go far to get some! They're definitely the compost of the future if you ask me...
