November blooms
A quiet day: a walk and a coffee with Val in Endcliffe Park this morning... a short interlude in the garden, watching birds and enjoying the last few roses, fuchsia blooms and passionflowers, before the expected wet and windy weather gets to them over the weekend... an afternoon walk along the Rivelin Valley with Richard... and then some catching up on household things.
The passionflower vine has entwined itself around a large rose bush, producing the illusion of passionflowers blooming on the thorny rose stems. This is my choice for the main image, with a Rivelin Valley heron in the extra.
As I read the stories about all those who drowned yesterday in the channel, I'm thinking of Jack and his colleagues at the Refugee Council, doing their best to limit the damage for those who do arrive here by one route or another. The Refugee Council recently published research that shows that the majority of asylum seekers who make their way here are fleeing from violence, starvation or other threats. I know, from Jack, that the asylum system is a mess and that finding legal routes into the UK has become harder and harder, even for those who fully meet the criteria for acceptance. There's some good info here:
