A sunny day
Great volleyball news - Simon Fraser opposite side hitter Brooke Dexter was named GNAC Freshman of the Year and senior captains Julia Teys and Bianca Te, and sophomore Kalyn Hartmann (also one of the captains) joined her on the 2021 GNAC Volleyball All-Conference Team. Bianca and Kalyn were Honourable Mentions. Well done to all four! Considering that Kalyn played injured most of the season, getting an Honourable Mention is fantastic. So proud of her and her contributions to the team. :-)) They fly to San Bernardino next Wednesday and play their first game on Thursday. This is only the second time that the SFU team has been invited to the NCAA West Regional Finals. The first time was in 2016.
With more rain heading our way tomorrow, I wanted to take advantage of a lovely sunny day and went for a walk down Xwaaqw'um. The last time we were there, we couldn't go down to the beach because the Parks Board guys and the tree cutting guy were dealing with trees and branches that were blocking the trail. Turns out it was quite the job. I've included the remaining stumps and some of the branches by the side of the trail in the extras. I also included a poor photo of the Welcome Poles down by the beach, and I couldn't get to the beach today because of the flooding and high tide. Quite a lot of damage on the road and path down to the dock, where I took the main photo of the boats. I also spotted some kind of stand with bits of wood stacked on top of it and a full cup of coffee. A mystery!
