Taking the Long Way Home
This has turned into a long day. I've been awake since about 5:00 a.m. Pacific Time. This was disembarkation day. Trudy and I had planned to wake early, but not quite that early. We just couldn't sleep. So after getting up, then to the Lido Deck for breakfast, and with all our bags packed, we were hoping to disembark between 8-8:30ish. All of that went down the drain with the U.S. Customs prolonged the approval of the ship and the allowing of passengers back into the states.
So it was somewhere after 9:00 a.m. when we were allowed to disembark. We got a taxi to the airport and I discovered as I checked-in at the ticket counter that my Southwest Airlines flight to Oakland at 12:05 would be delayed 35-45 minutes. I was a little uncomfortable with that because I had a connecting flight from Oakland to Ontario and I did not want to miss my plane.
So I sat with Trudy as she waited for her flight to Las Vegas with a connector flight to Manchester, New Hampshire. A while later it was announced that her flight was delayed an hour. Since she would have a long lay-over in Las Vegas, that would be okay.
I clicked over 100 photos on the two flights home. The photo that I've chose for my blip today is the view of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge as we flew toward the Oakland airport. The sight of all of that was spectacular, and it was especially so since yesterday we had viewed the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver.
I captured one photo that allowed me to see all the streets of San Francisco lined up perpendicular, but somehow the view of the Golden Gate Bridge was lost in that shot.
When I got into the Oakland Airport I learned that my flight to Ontario had been delayed for over an hour. So I was relieved that I had not missed my flight.
At about 5:40 p.m. I was so glad to be arriving at my destination airport in Ontario, California, even if it was 90 minutes later than originally planned. It was so good to see Mr. Fun and Bob dog.
It's been a fun and fabulous girlfriend weekend in the Pacific Northwest. Now I need to get to bed. I'm exhausted. Having fun is lots of work.
Good night from Southern California,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
P.S. I did get a whole stack of student papers graded while flying today, so I was not just messing-off; I actually got some work accomplished. ;-)
P.P.S. If you missed the photo of the checkered lily from Butchart Gardens, I think you'd enjoying seeing it.
