Diary of an Edinburgher

Another Barcelona Blipmeet!

An early start was made this morning for a visit to Sagrada Familia. Last time we had been there in the afternoon and the queue was a mile long! A compulsory stop for coffee (and croissant) and by the time we got there, 10:00 am, it was not so early, and the queue was about two miles long!! Or to be more precise, the queue for the timed tickets which entitled you to then queue to pay to get in, was two miles long! This idea was abandoned again, for another attempt, possibly on our last day, Monday, this time really early- 8:30.

Another wander round our neighbourhood, Gracia, popping in to the market again. Fascinating to watch the fish sellers gutting the fish as they are sold. I chose the colourful fruit shot for today.

Later we popped into a posh hotel our house swappers had recommended. Very posh. There was a private 'do' going on in part of the lounge area, with a three piece jazz band, so we had a couple of cañas and enjoyed the music and watching the rich folk. The beers were still not as expensive as the £10 glasses of wine we had at Gleneagles in the 90s. This is our benchmark, and I still haven't recovered from the shock.

Barrioboy and digitaldaze, who live in Barcelona, contacted us yesterday. We met up with them at the Velodromo, a fantastic cafe/bar. We had more cañas and tapas, and they invited back to their house for a coffee. What an utterly charming place - full of momentos of their travels all over the world. We were enthusing to them about house swapping, and offered to be their first customers...

A great evening and a great day in this great city!
