Altar...

... the Church and Convent of St. Francis, Quito, Ecuador. Some of our group went this morning on a tour of some of the architectural highlights (among other things) in the old town part of Quito. We went into several absolutely amazingly ornate churches. Possibly the most jaw dropping was a church called the Golden Church - but they didn't allow any photographs. But this St. Francis church was pretty darned impressive. The amount of actual gold (in the form of gold leaf) smeared all over these churches is just astonishing.

We also went to a chocolate tasting - so that balanced things out.

Tomorrow we're up for breakfast at 5:00 and then off to the airport to fly to the Galápagos - so you'll not be hearing from me for a bit over a week. I'll backblip once I'm home.
