Norwich the City of Stories
Backblip
An afternoon with H in the fine City of Norwich today. Whilst visiting my favourite shop (see extra), I came across this rather striking mural, which features some well known buildings in Norwich including the castle and the town hall clock tower (cleverly painted to look like books on a shelf). The plaque on the wall says 'Norwich the City of Stories'.
The macaron shop (which of course I had to visit) is in the fabulous Victorian Royal Arcade (also in extras). This arcade now has new owners who purchased it recently for £3.4m. Sadly, there are a few empty units so I hope the new owners will be able to revitalise it. Designed by local architect George Skipper in the Arts and Crafts style popular at the end of the nineteenth century, the Royal Arcade was built on the site of an old coaching inn and was unveiled on the 25th May 1899.
It looks just as splendid today.
