The Errant Cuckoo
Today we had plenty of laundry and other chores to do after returning from our week-long holiday in Cornwall. One job which has defeated me still is resetting our cuckoo clock. It is a modern take on an old idea. My sister gave us the clock as a Silver Wedding anniversary present, six years ago, saying it would allow us to go bird watching in comfort, whatever the weather! We switched from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time while we were away so, on our return, the clock was an hour fast. It is simple enough to reset the time, but persuading the cuckoo to fall in line is a different matter! He has caused me problems before, on previous time changes, and today is being especially awkward. As you see, he is popping out to say cuckoo at 8pm, when he actually made eleven cuckoo calls! On that basis at 10pm I expected thirteen calls, but only got two! My husband says he will try taking the cuckoo in hand tomorrow.
