Turn, Turn, Turn
After the carefully crafted humour of last week’s play, it was almost a shock to the system to return to the world of bad puns, double entendres and slapstick. That’s right - we are back in the land of pantomime. It was also a bit overwhelming having so many people in the same space. Going from a total cast of seven to twenty plus, took a bit of getting used to.
It was weird how it all felt a little stale and brand new at the same time. I suppose when you think that we’ve been trying to get this production going for over eighteen months, a certain amount of over familiarity creeps in. At the same time, having a few new cast members helps keep things fresh. Our director has also had time to come up with new ideas so scenes we thought we knew, were changed to incorporate new ideas, scenery and plot ideas.
The picture being an example of this. A slightly static scene has been improved by having characters run across the stage at intervals, causing the principals to revolve slowly on the spot to watch their progress. It looks better than it sounds (honest!) though you can see that a little work may be required to ensure they all turn in unison! It is also noticeable that those watching in the hall are paying not the slightest bit of notice to what is going on on stage! About par for the course when you’ve seen the same bit half a dozen times!
I may have spoken too soon yesterday about my lack of reaction to the booster jab. By late evening I wasn’t feeling particularly clever, a state of affairs that has lasted through most of today. Finally started to feel a bit human by late afternoon, which is a good thing, as we are off to watch a recording of the Radio 4 show “I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue” at The Lowry in Salford tonight. I’ve been to one of these many years ago so it should be an entertaining evening.
