Woodland pleasures.

Its a real joy walking in the woods in late October. I took this one coming down from Arnside Knott this morning. One has to be very careful, however, as the fallen leaves cover the path. I lost it once even though I know the area well.

My Extra shows a group of what I believe to be Sheathed Woodtuft with the splendid scientific name of
Kuehneromyces mutabilis. Look like fried eggs. The book says it is edible but warns against trying as there is a deadly poisonous lookalike which grows in the same places and which needs a real expert to see the difference. The lookalike’s common name is Funeral Bell!
