At last I have access to books!first one I looked at today was a big hardback which Sarah had bought for Chris, called "The Gorgeous Nothings". It has photographs and transcriptions of the bits of poetry which Emily Dickinson wrote on the backs of old envelopes. It's a beautiful book.

The introduction mentioned how the only one of Emily's dresses to have survived has a large pocket in which she carried pieces of paper and a pencil for jotting down thoughts.

Never underestimate the importance of a pocket.
