Discussion trophy

Our morning services were conducted by the Rev Dr George Whyte, the Principal Clerk to the General Assembly.

At the family service he spoke about the trophy in the picture on the screen and in his hands. The trophy was made in 1911 with the aim of bringing together the 2 main Presbyterian groupings in Scotland on an annual basis. The aim being that by meeting up, playing golf and discussing issues they would have a better understanding of each other.

The picture was taken in 1929 and that was the last time such a match was played as, in that year, the 2 groupings united to form the Church of Scotland.

The trophy is now played for between the Church of Scotland and the Church of England.
