Sunset at the old nets.

Our first day in Galloway and it was wet.  Beautiful views out of the windows but rain steadily falling.  Eventually we took ourselves to the visitor's centre at Gatehouse for lunch.  Homemade soup, homemade bread, homemade cake and good coffee. When we came out the rain had almost stopped so we had a wander round the grounds and photographed the twitcher, a giant wooden sculpture created by Andy Frost(see extra).  Then we went to Cream of Galloway to check if they were doing lunches and if you had to book.  Couldn't resist their 21 flavours of ice cream so had a cone each. Veda went for banoffee and I had cinnamon.   Our next stop was Carrick shore, a favourite spot for locals and visitors. It's good for sunset but not today.  However we enjoyed photographing the rocks(see extra).  The results were not wonderful but we had a good time which is what counts.  On the way  back to base we stopped at a favourite photographer's layby where there are the remains of old stake nets.  It was grey when we arrived but then a gleam of light appeared and we waited and waited.  Gradually a sunset developed and Veda began to develop an obsession with mud(see extra).  Back to Willow Lodge and lots of planning for Sunday.   Jane, our landlady had assured us it would be good weather.  I was sceptical as the Met Office had the forecast for the whole week as cloudy although  it was to be mild and dry.  Veda was doing a long drive to Dumfries House. I was going to Wigtown to photograph dawn at the Martyr's stake in the hope that Jane was right.  Went to bed with fingers crossed.
