Diary of an Edinburgher

An appointment!

The day dawned bright and sunny, unlike myself, as I had another coughy, niggly night. However, it was nice being able to sit out in the sunshine with my coffee and Archie on my knee, watching JR planting new things and hacking back the clump of bamboo which would take over if left.

Today was the day that I had an actual appointment with an actual physiotherapist. It was the same place that I’d been many times for both knees, and it was always busy - the gym equipment was in constant use. However, nowadays it sits unused, unloved and wasted. Today I was the only person there, but as I left, there was a physio and a patient looking as if, possibly, they might be going to use some of the equipment…

The young physiotherapist, who wasn’t the one who’d rung me twice and sent me two lots of printed exercises, tapped me with her rubber hammer in all the right places, and declared that she wasn’t sure - she wasn’t a back specialist, nor yet a heart specialist - so she’d refer me back to the back man, and he can decide who to refer me on to. I’ve already seen him, he’d offered me pills, tapped my knees and elbows and suggested physio, so perhaps he’ll refer me back again to this young woman.

However, I was able to stop by the canal on the way home. I always like this part, with the abandoned hut and old scrubby boats.

JR and Archie had a big walk down town, and shared a pistachio ice cream from Mary’s Milk Bar.

Shocking news this afternoon about the MP stabbed to death while holding a surgery in his constituency. What is this country coming to? There is so much strife and hatred.
