A still life

I must admit that I scoffed a little at ‘the worst cold ever’ reports on BBC News, but I can confirm that it’s a little rough.

Today I had such a brilliant session in school with my mentee. One of those sessions where the plan gets ditched and some good, real talk happens. Today L, unprompted, said a couple of positive statements about herself. Massive breakthrough. Usually if I try to praise her or point out her strengths, she gives me the biggest eye roll known to man. I love this kid.

On checking my voicemail after a couple of manic lunch clubs with some pretty needy teenagers, I was surprised to hear a stern message from a lady who’s Trust I had applied to for funding. She was pretty disgruntled about the fact that I had used a first class stamp instead of a second. In her words, she would have expected a charity to be using second class stamps. She was very much not happy. Having put my heart and soul into these letters for weeks, I was pretty gutted that 20p was going to be such a big issue, especially as I only bought the wrong stamps in a moment of absent mindedness.

You can’t win them all.
