Derelict Nursery
Back in the second half of the last century, daffodils grown on the steep west-facing banks of the River Tamar would have been picked and arrived at Covent Garden by six o'clock the next morning. Sadly, the rise in imports and closure of branch lines meant that prices fell and the nurseries went into decline.
Today, evidence of this industry can be still be seen along the footpaths that follow the river. In spring, different varieties of daffodil grow in drifts, increasingly swamped by brambles, bracken and young trees - beech, in this case. You can see a very pale daffodil, with more common yellow ones in bud further down the slope.
