the heat of the day

This was to be a shorter day but somehow we walked 14.5 miles. We left Negreira after breakfast when it was still cool, on a nice riverside path. I even wore my Camino buff - the one which started it all. D found it 5 years ago in a Coop carpark on Uist ( of all places) and I said those immortal words "I'll have to walk the Camino now". And here we are...

10 miles later in the day, around 2pm, the heat hits us, and at the same time there are helicopters and planes flying back and forth overhead, fighting a forest fire.

I'm writing this outside the albergue at Santa Marinã while we wait for our food. We are still trying to get used to eating late as everyone seems to do in Spain. Santa Marinã is a tiny place with a 12th century church and a few farms. The countryside (and smell of silage) reminds us of home :-)

Luke has just looked at the weather forecast and it is going to be even hotter tomorrow...
