Friday is grass cutting day

All day.
With about 50 acres to do it takes all day even with a three metre cut mower.
Audley End House for a day out. The gardens remain attractive despite it being late in the season and we had a very nice historical tour with a guide around the gardens and the park close to the house.
The house is much diminished from its early 17th century grandeur but still pretty impressive. The original ‘palace’ was built by James 1st’s Chancellor who then made the mistake of inviting the King for the weekend. ‘Where’d you get the money for you to build this?’ Says the King. Two years later said Chancellor was in the Tower for embezzlement and his lands forfeit. Luckily he kept his head.
