Our Day in Photos, Take 3

Overcast with small periods of sun, mild Fall temps all day. Knowing we’d be sweaty after our hike to the swamp, we decided to go early before showering. It wasn’t until we were about two miles into it that I realized we’d forgotten to eat breakfast and I brought water but no snacks. So glad we have no diabetes issues. As usual, the path we chose was much longer than originally planned. The swamp was a bit disappointing as we saw no wildlife. We came upon a small toad, a daddy longlegs, and a crow in the forest and many mosquitoes once we left the woodlands. There were, however, several fungi specimens including some that we did not find during our last camping trip. We continued the jaunt along the creek and marsh. Seek identified the purple berries as the American beauty berry but the leaves are different than my shrubs. There were some interesting tree formations (one looked like a beaver had gnawed it) and the trails were well marked. Although most trees are still green, we found a few colorful leaves on the forest floor. The trails are all considered “easy” because there is minimal change in elevation. We cut the last trail short and walked back through the freshly cut cornfield, having walked more then 7,000 steps. After lunch and showers, we went to town to get homemade pie from a well known family restaurant that’s been in business over 80 years. Unfortunately, they had a death in the family and were closed. We said a prayer for them and substituted a tasty ice cream cone from a coffee shop. We were exhausted so it was nap time when we returned. Hubby is grilling steaks, I prepared the veggies for our end of summer vacations meal. We’ll pack up tomorrow and head home before 1:00 pm. Thanks for visiting. I hope you enjoyed the journey. “A fallen leaf is nothing more than a summer’s wave goodbye.” – Unknown
