Faster Than the Speed of Night

A week ago today I had a text from the surgery inviting me to book in for a flu jab. As it happened, on Friday morning I overheard Mrs C on the phone to the doctors making an appointment for a blood test, so I mimed that I needed to make an appointment myself and could she pass the phone over once she had finished (our surgery is very efficient once you get through to them, it’s just an absolute beggar getting through in the first place!) And thus I was booked in for my jab today at the very precise time of 8.18am. Turned up a little early and took a seat in the waiting room. No problem with social distancing as there were only three of us in there! The clock showed 8.16 when I was called. I walked down the corridor, removing my jacket and rolling up my sleeve as I went. The nurse was very impressed that I was ready for the jab and it was swiftly administered. As I walked out I noticed the clock was still showing 8.16am - that’s what I call a speedy service!
And the day did not get any less hectic. By 9.30 I’d wrapped a parcel and taken it to the Post Office - via Asda to buy more parcel tape because I’d run out half way through - and was home again just in time to meet the lady who was interested in buying our settee. By 10.30 we’d done the deal and arranged a collection date for the following Monday. I made a quick call to the plumber, just to remind him about taking the radiators off before Monday. “Be there after lunch” was the reply, so I had to rush round clearing things out of the way.
And in amongst all that, I still found time to fill some more holes and reattach some sockets. I even took advantage of the hairdresser being here to do Mrs C’s hair and squeezed in a quick short back and sides for myself!
Not unsurprisingly, after all that running around, I’m abandoning plans to go to the gym tonight, in favour of just putting my feet up in front of the telly with a nice cup of tea!
