Interkingdom twins!
Shield bugs are not active during the winter, and those who are not that lucky to enter into a warm house where they can go into diapause protected from the climate (but not necessarily from house owners that want them OUT) will seek shelter in nature where they can fall asleep until the spring brings them warmer weather. This chap found a perfect woody seedhead that will serve as a winterhome for him. He was trying to find a good sleeping position when I spotted him. In my opinion this shield bug and seedhead look like interspecies (and interkingdom!) twins, made one for the other.
I imagine that it makes the shield bug feel very much at home!
P.s.
If you tilt your head to the right while looking at the photo, also this shield bug seems to be carrying a face on its back!
Or, if you want you can even see it as a head with big crown afro hair!
