Ritual
Well, thank you to Biker Jim for handing over the baton yesterday with an absolute corker of a self portrait and his 14th entry in the dictionary project...
this is my first.
"Ritual (noun)
1. The prescribed or established form of a religious or other ceremony
2. Stereotyped activity or behaviour"
A classic example of a ritual took place at my Dad's this evening, and well timed too, given that I had picked up the project today!
Sterotypical behaviour of men when one of the menfolk gets a new shiny car, and the other menfolk have to inspect all aspects of the new shiny car, including the following stages to the procedure
1. Sit inside car and demonstrate/fiddle with all new gadgetry including the ritual of 'turning up the stereo' to show how loud it can go - sod the neighbours!
2. Lift up the bonnet/hood to inspect the engine (pointless in a new car as they are sealed units pretty much)
3. Open the boot to admire how much space there is in there, making such comments as "there's room to sleep in there". Whilst in the boot space, also inspect the section for the spare wheel.
4. Check underneath the car....with backside up in the air.
5. Buff the paint as you are going along.
6. Stand around a lot with hands in pockets making admiring glances at the new car, maybe with a cup of tea in your hand...
Most of all - look manly....and make sure you know the appropriate times and phrases to nod at and agree with.
Will back blip for thursday and wednesday later on...and will post to flickr too over the weekend.
