Hill Lucre

Here's a map to show where we are on the Camino. We have walked 187 miles so far (12 today) but as you can see there are a few more to go. Wevplan to reach Santiago on October 8th and the next day we will be joined by Chris and Luke, who are walking with us for another 4 days to reach the coast at Finisterre.

The title of this post (as with all my recent blips) comes from a place in "A Pilgrim's Progress". At Hill Lucre, pilgrims can be lured off the path by the promise of material treasure (a silver mine). It's appropriate because today Sarah and I have been trying to lose stuff from our packs to reduce their weight. What can we do without? A valuable pilgrimage lesson :-)

This morning I left my unused sleeping bag at the hostel. We binned some old paperwork and abandoned some small UK coins. I have been intentionally losing various things as we go. It reminds me of the poem "One Art" by Elizabeth Bishop https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47536/one-art

Before we came away, I read a lot of other people's accounts of Packing For the Camino - what they packed and what they could have left behind. Here is one of them: https://pgstheway.com/what-i-took/

Tomorrow will be another long day. We cooked a big dish of pasta, pesto, tofu and tomatoes tonight and then went out for a glass of port. Viva!
