Lunch in town
An auspicious date. 20 years ago I was in my newly set up computer classroom, the kids were busy at some exciting online activity, and the computer techie bloke was in to fix something or other. He called me over - ‘Look at this!’ I thought he was playing a video game. But no, it was live TV! When the other teachers came in to look, one got quite hysterical, crying that it was going to be ‘World War 3’.
We visited ‘Ground Zero’ a few years later when we did a house swap to New York. Very moving.
This morning I walked over to the sewing shop to pick up my adjusted jacket. He had insisted on cash, so I had a £20 note and £3 in a pile of 5p and 10p pieces to annoy him, but he said, ‘Oh good! Just what I need - lots of change!’’
After Archie had gone out, we set off into town to try out a new restaurant. I’d been following it on Instagram, and they are a successful brand in Amsterdam, with two cafes still there. It’s not particulary Dutch cuisine, just standard breakfast/brunch dishes, but well done. Though they did have their special Dutch Apple tart, which we - sadly - had no room for.
We then walked along Thistle Street and - Oh look! It’s our favourite wee wine bar/restaurant, so we popped in and had a couple of glasses of a cheeky little NZ Gewürztraminer, though the cocktails looked quite tempting (Extra). It’s such a cool place, with a nice vibe and friendly staff.
Our bus, which has been on a different route this past couple of weeks, has now reverted to the proper one, which has the advantage of being near the shop which sells the delicious licorice.
Tennis final tonight. GO Emma!!
