Snow in spring

Snow, snow, and even more snow - snow falling against a backdrop of dark green conifers, with the pale shape of a young birch providing some subtle warm tones.

Apart from a trip to Sainsbury's to stock the cupboards, I haven't left the house, but have spent the day pottering and clearing out. The snow has been relentless and unpleasant, settling on the trees and rooves, but producing an icy slush on the ground. Even the pigeon wouldn't go out for a fly!

So, following clickychicks example, I experimented with capturing an image of the falling snow. I used a telephoto lens, manually focussed, and tried different shutter speeds. In the end I preferred the effect given by a relatively fast shutter speed and wide aperture, which produced nice rounded shapes. Slower shutter speeds produced unsettling streaks. The colour balance was tweaked slightly to give a colder feel, but otherwise there was very little processing.
