St Barbara's Garrison Church

Despite appearances, this "tin tabernacle" is still part of an active church community, although it no longer serves as a garrison church since the closure of the Deepcut Army camp.  Originally dedicated to St Michael and All Angels,  St Barbara's Church was built at the barracks in 1901 as a portal garrison church. As a prefabricated structure, it was never intended to last, so is a testement to it's community that it is still here today, over 120 years later, and is now Grade II listed.

The army camp is currently being redeveloped as a new "village", Midenhurst, so the barriers etc. are there to protect the building, which is due to undergo a major renovation programme as part of the village development.

Avid film goers may also recognise the building from the film starring Colin Firth, Kingsman: The Secret Service, when it represented a Kentucky Church subject to a rather violent scene of mass murder. I observed some of the filming at the time.
