Part-Time Love
My Dear Princess and Dear Friends,
Well.
Today was an unexpected delight. Caro has not stopped smiling all day. We left her yesterday, with the pair of us hopeful that she would be able to get a new, nicer, part-time role with her current employer, instead of the police.
This would mean she could set her own hours, continue to work from home, and be able to take holidays whenever she wanted, instead of adhering to a roster.
The only factor left was the money. You may remember that Manger #2 was off to sort out the financials. To give him a guideline, Caro told him what the salary was for the police job.
"But that's the FULL-TIME salary," she told him.
"Right, right, that's the FULL-TIME salary," he repeated.
Caro felt bad afterward. "I think I shot myself in the foot," she admitted. "He's going to take that salary and half it and that's not a great hourly rate."
I told her I didn't care, so long as she was happy. "So long as the offer isn't actually insulting, I think you should accept it," I told her.
That was yesterday. This morning Manager #2 came back with his offer. "We can't quite match the police salary," he apologised and quoted her a number.
My spirits sank. If they couldn't meet the part-time salary for the police job, I thought, then maybe Caro would go with the police job after all, but... wait... what was that number he just quoted?
What he meant was, he couldn't match the FULL TIME salary. And quite honestly, it was only just below it.
Eh?
What?
Did?
I?
Hear?
Right?
It turns out that Caro is really valued by her company. Really. A lot. So she had no issues at all accepting that figure. "This is for 20 hours, right?" she confirmed.
It was.
Long story short, Caro will be starting in her new role probably early next month, after they have hired someone to take over her desk, and she's had a holiday.
"What?" said Manager #2, "You're asking for holiday too??"
She was. And he agreed.
So Caro is delighted. Manager #2 is delighted. Mrs. Manager #2 is REALLY delighted, she can't wait to work with Caro.
Everyone is delighted. And Caro is happy.
And that makes me delighted.
S.
