Aimee from a distance
I spent the day making a book of Aimee's journals and photographs taken during her two months in New York, and at the end of the day she came to see the final version before I ordered a copy for each of us. Her way of writing is so honest it's shocking--rather like Patti Smith, only not so cushioned by privilege as Patti Smith is. I love Aimee's writing, and her phone photographs--partly because she has an M.A. in photography, and so she has thought and studied photography and has practiced it intensively for years--are equally stunning. She has quite a body of work for two months, 176 pages. It was a pleasure to make the book for her. Whether she'll be able to find a commercial publisher or not, at least she'll have the one copy. And so will I.
