Day 11 Devon and Dorset
This morning we packed up our things and left the lovely Bridge House in Bridport. We decided to visit Chesil Beach first after a recommendation from my friend. The beach is stunning and is 18 miles long! It's made up of pebbles which differ in size from quite large at one end to small at the other apparently. We took our camping chairs and sat and enjoyed the sun for nearly 1 1/2 hours while reading. We then had a little walk up the beach (which was very difficult to do), while looking at the beautiful stones which were made up of so many different colours and some unusual shapes.
We'd seen a sign for a subtropical garden on the way to the beach so we headed there for a bit of lunch and to pass a bit of time. I was surprised at how large the garden was and it was definitely worth a visit with many different parts and things to discover. It also included a walk to a viewpoint looking over Chesil Beach, the swannery and The Fleet. Apparently, this area was used to test the bouncing bombs during World War 2.
Afterwards, we stopped in beautiful Abbotsbury for a little walk. It's a lovely village made up of thatched cottages and we managed to get to a tea shop just in time for a delicious cream tea, the first (and only one) of our holidays. We arrived at our new accommodation, The Duchess of Cornwall in Poundbury, in time for our tea.
The weather was finally sunny all day as forecast.
