The Auld Meal Mill

CMC had departed for her piano lesson, badminton, and her afternoon slot in the Stromness cat shop (kittens wrapped while you wait).  She said I could have the day off!!

I had planned a long walk.  As I headed to the door the phone rang; it was Jock.  Would now be the right time to come and fit the new windows?  We had expected him mid-September.  It would have been mad to refuse; I took off my walking pumps.  Jock arrived within two minutes (he’d called me from the village where he’d been skulking).  When he arrived he said that you can’t beat a good skulk.  After we removed curtains, curtain rails, furniture, gee-gaws, a barometer, ornaments, the billiard table, my inflatable Anton Rogers, a warped copy of ‘Walking in the Sunshine’ by Roger Miller, the budgie’s cage, my Aunty Nora, a tilley lamp, CMC’s 1/72 scale model of Alcatraz and two rugs  I left him to go and get on with it.

The fish van and the postie arrived at the same time and couldn’t get round Jock’s van.  A fight broke out.  To be discontinued.
