A very straight road

We went to Hexham and returned via the Military Road, which is the road that links most of the Hadrian's Wall sites. It is built on the old Roman road and is very straight. It goes right through the hilly bits causing severe dips. But it is picturesque - you can see some of the Roman Wall on the right.

The East West divide
We set off from home this morning in sunshine but, as soon as we were on the other side of the Pennines, it was cloudy, dull and cold. Then we returned to the sunshine at home this afternoon.

Holiday traffic
We returned via the A66 and the holiday traffic heading towards Keswick was already heavy - caravans, camper vans, boats on vehicles, bikes on vehicles. The Lake District is not the place to be this weekend.

Waiting at home was a lovely gift - I will tell about it tomorrow.
